Coimbatore: A press meet was organized by the 'Creating India without Rape' organization at the Coimbatore Press Club.
Addressing the media, Dr. Umashankar, a member and Children Rights volunteer in the Creating India without Rape organization said, “Sexual abuse and rape against children in Tamil Nadu has increased up to 175 percent in the last five years, with Tamil Nadu now sadly being in the 15th place. Kailash Sathyarthi’s organization for children is striving to create an India without rape by 2022, and to purposefully stop sexual assaults against women and children.

As a first move, we have tied up with NGOs, voluntary organizations and other private organizations across the country. We have an affidavit signed by 292 candidates in the country which include 27 persons in Tamil Nadu. Notable leaders like Sheela Dixit, Digvijay Singh, Sarath Yadav, Ravishankar Prasad, E V K S Ilangovan, Venkatesan, P R Natarajan and Dhanush Kumar from Tamil Nadu has signed the affidavit. They have promised to support and stand by the protection of women and children in our country.
We have also requested to allocate 10 percent of the budget for child protection. Our organization is operating successfully in 20 states in the country and now we have started our operations in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. We insist that the Central and State Governments take stringent action against those who indulge any form of sexual assault against women and children. We are taking steps to conduct awareness classes for students from Class 6 in schools. These classes will benefit students," added Dr. Umashankar.
